I personally use a Canon Pixma printer (love it) and buy third-party ink for it. The quality might be a tad bit lower than the real stuff, but it's a whole lot cheaper. Even less expensive are third-party 'compatible' ink cartridges that sell for $3 or so. These manufacturers sell replacement ink that doesn't include a new print head, making the ink cheaper to buy.
